Our Region

Sandžak, geographically, is a region divided between Serbia and Montenegro. The Serbian part of Sandžak is located within the administrative districts of Raška and Zlatibor. With an average elevation of 755 meters and an area of 8687 km², it represents an extremely suitable place to live with abundant industrial potential throughout the territory. Sandžak, in its significance, refers to an administrative military unit. he territory of Sandžak is divided into Serbian and Montenegrin parts. Within the Serbian part of Sandžak, there are municipalities: Tutin, Sjenica, Priboj, Prijepolje, Nova Varoš, and Novi Pazar, which is also the cultural, economic, and administrative center of the Sandžak region. The Montenegrin part of Sandžak includes municipalities Bijelo Polje, Pljevlja, Berane, Plav, Gusinje, and Rožaje.

Novi Pazar

Grad Novi Pazar je ekonomski, kulturni i univerzitetski centar jugozapadne Srbije. Grad je osnovao Ishak-beg Ishaković polovinom 15. veka. Novi Pazar, kao grad, prvi put je pomenut u pisanim dikumentima koje je izdala Dubrovačka Republika 1461. godine. Novi Pazae se odlikuje raznolikošću kultura, etniciteta, religija i načina života. Grad Novi Pazar je poznat i kao najmlađi grad u Evropi po prosečnoj starosti stanovništva. Izuzetan geografski položaj je preodredio da se lokalno stanovništvo bavi trgovinom kao osnovnom delatnošću. Novi Pazar je nakon otvoranja dva univerziteta prerastao u studentski grad za celokupni sandžački okrug.

Education

The state educational system in Novi Pazar comprises 5 kindergartens, 14 primary schools, 6 secondary schools, a music school, and one State University. Due to the large number of students, the current classes are conducted in three shifts. In addition to one State University, Novi Pazar is also home to two private universities. Within the educational system, there are three vocational schools in Novi Pazar whose primary priority is to educate the workforce. These vocational schools engage in activities such as textile, leather, wood, and metal processing. Other activities include education in construction work, hospitality, and tourism.

Economy

In the city of Novi Pazar, there are over 747 small and medium-sized privately-owned enterprises, accounting for 94.3% of all enterprises in the city. The trade sector has the largest number of small and medium-sized enterprises, with approximately 433 businesses. Besides trade, the manufacturing industry stands out as one of the most prevalent, with 145 enterprises, constituting 77% of small and medium-sized businesses. Within the economic sphere, the key sectors in Novi Pazar include the textile industry, footwear manufacturing, healthy food production, the construction industry, trade, wood processing, and furniture manufacturing. The transportation and logistics sectors have experienced noticeable growth in recent years.

Sjenica

Potentials of Sjenica

The Sjenica-Pešter plateau area abounds with exceptionally large natural potentials. particularly suitable for the development of agriculture and livestock farming, as well as significant mineral wealth (large deposits of lignite coal). In addition, to deposits of brown coal and lignite, other significant natural resources of the municipality include meadows, which cover 57.51% of the territory, and pastures, which make up 33.01% of the total agricultural areas.

Other notable potentials include the Uvac, Gutavica, and Paljevine nature reserves, Sjenica Lake, the large Pešter field, Uvački cave system, Tubića cave, Baždarska cave, the meanders of the Vapa river, as well as numerous archaeological sites and locations.

Economy of Sjenica

According to data from the National Bank of Serbia, the municipality of Sjenica has 96 active companies. The total number of companies makes 95 small and midsize enterprises and a large enterprise “SANATEX” which employs around 500 workers. The most developed sectors in this municipality are textile production, food processing, and manufacturing. There are 620 active shops in the municipality of Sjenica. Among other sectors, the largest shares are in trade, transport, and tourism. The area of Sjenica also contains deposits of brown coal and lignite, and the “ŠTAVALJ” mines are one of the most important potentials of the municipality.

Tutin

Područije Opštine Tutin se nalazi na jugoistoku Sandžaka i jugozapadu Srbije. Tutin je prvi put pomenut u Gluhavičkom povelju 1396. godine. Čitavo područje karakteriše planinska klima, s dugim i hladnim zimama i kraćim i svežijim letima, osim u dolinama Ibra i Vidrenjaka gde klima ima karakteristike podplaninskog tipa. Prirodni pejzaž Tutina oblikovan je Pešterskim visoravni, Tutinskom dolinom, planinom Mokra Gora, jezerom Gazivode i rekama Ibar i Vidrenjak. Ukupna površina opštine je 741 km2 i sastoji se od 99 naselja na nadmorskoj visini od 1.000 metara. Opština Tutin bogata je prirodnim resursima i skromnim trgovinskim potencijalima, s glavnim izvorima prihoda iz sektora prerade drveta i proizvodnje nameštaja, kao i poljoprivrede.

Agriculture

Of the total area of the municipality, agricultural land occupies 53.5%. The structure of the agricultural land includes arable land at 12.1%, orchards at 0.8%, meadows at 33.2%, and pastures at 53.9%. This breakdown highlights the biological potential of the region, especially the growing importance of forests, which cover 32.5% of the total forest area. The crops are mainly represented by mountainous cereals (barley, oats), with most of the vegetables grown being potatoes, and the fruit grown including apples and plums. Given that meadows and pastures make up 87% of the total agricultural area, livestock farming is a priority in the development of agriculture.

Economy

The wood processing industry recognizes the need to form clusters and associations. Additionally, the well-organized sectors of healthy food, milk, and honey production should be noted. According to data from the National Bank of Serbia, there are a total of 579 active shops operating in the municipality of Tutin. An overview of the number of enterprises by size shows that almost 99% of the enterprises are small and medium-sized, with only two large enterprises. The economic structure of the municipality of Tutin is characterized by the trade sector, industry (mainly wood processing and furniture manufacturing), as well as the agricultural sector, including milk and dairy product production.
